About the role
The RFU Wasps Academy physiotherapist role will be primarily working with the U16-U18 Academy Squads including elite RFU (EAP) registered players in the South (until further update).
This is a Full-time role of 40 hours per week and you must be flexible in your commitment to this role as you will be expected to work evenings, weekends and match days leading as U18 matchday physiotherapist.
The role is based primarily from our Central AASE affiliated College – City of Oxford College, however in addition to your role here you will be working from our Broadstreet RFC Training Ground, Henley Hawks RFC and you will be required to work at our satellite venues, for example partner schools in our region.
The role requires excellent clinical knowledge, experience and a proven ability to work independently in managing a LTAD rugby caseload. The key requirements are a physiotherapy or graduate sports rehabilitator degree with experience working/volunteering in Elite Sport, being able to demonstrate a strong sport focused career development pathway, and an enthusiasm to learn.
Key tasks will include;
This is a dual role, leading physiotherapy support for both Wasps Junior Academy players (u15-18) and 1XV AASE athletes at the City of Oxford College. Time is split according to season demands and will be agreed in advance.
For assigned caseload, to provide timely injury assessment, diagnosis and formulate treatment/ rehabilitation plans with support from the wider medical team where appropriate.
To develop excellent relationships with key stakeholders to support player health and recovery from injury. This will include information sharing with partner schools and provision of detailed weekly reports to the Academy Manager, relevant Wasps coaching staff and AASE head coach. You will lead on this for all junior academy players.
Be a key member of the interdisciplinary team, to continue developing evidence-based medical practices within the academy. Integrating physiotherapy and strength and conditioning, to optimise delivery and stakeholder engagement with physical rehabilitation and preparation services for Wasps Academy players –
‘RTP The Wasps Way’.
On occasion and to support development, provide physiotherapy support to the senior academy squad based at Broadstreet RFC.
Assist the Head of Academy Physiotherapy in the support of part time junior academy physiotherapist. Included within this, ensure shared communication documents are updated following academy training sessions with all appropriate stakeholders.
Appropriate record keeping using Rugby Squad of all physiotherapy interventions and contact time with both Junior Academy and City of Oxford College athletes.
To provide match-day care for agreed Academy team fixtures (including AASE 1XV), leading on U18 fixtures.
To attend all Wasps junior academy training sessions (Monday and Thursday evenings in season).
Meet all of the RFU PHICIS Trauma Course qualifications, and attend courses annually as required.
As part of the Academy Medical department, contribute to the ongoing development of medical provision for academy players at Wasps, through regular internal professional reflective practice – lead by protecting time with clinical supervisor every 3-4 weeks (to be scheduled in).
Where appropriate arrange, coach and treat identified EAP U18 and U16 players through our outreach in school programme.
Lead on maintaining medical supplies for Junior Academies and create orders from supported suppliers when needed, to be signed off by Academy Head physiotherapist.
Supported by Head Academy Physiotherapist, to lead on maintenance of academy mandatory medical equipment, including completion of weekly checklists for compliance with RFU Medical Minimum Standards and identify items for renewal / re-order.
Attend regular and scheduled Case Conferencing and lead on key areas, age groups and individual EAP players throughout the season to support their long-term athlete development and progression.
