Welsh Netball Head of Performance – Welsh Netball – Cardiff

Job Summary
This role will be to lead, manage and develop a coherent, cohesive and sustainable performance pathway for all netball activity across Wales. The role will see the development and delivery of the performance pathway for athletes, coaches, umpires and officials.

The Head of Performance will play a critical part in achieving Welsh Netballs strategy of driving consistent international success. You will work with leading Coaches and Officials to continue the development of relationships with the High Performance Clubs, Players and workforce. The role will continue to develop the effectiveness of the Development and Performance Training Centres across the Country. You will also develop and implement the elite Coaching, Umpire and Officials strategy throughout the performance pathway.

The Priorities for the Role are:
To develop and lead the delivery of the performance plan
To provide leadership as member of the Senior Management Team
To provide leadership and strategic direction of the performance department and programmes
To build and maintain effective on-going relationships across Welsh Netball club network, Home Nations and external partners and stakeholders (E.g. Netball Europe)

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a full part in the collective responsibility for setting the strategic direction for the sport and ensuring the effective day to day management of the business and delivery of the operational plan for the performance department.

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Head of Development and Head Coach, to ensure departmental integration and collaboration for maximising delivery of the strategic plan.

Key Tasks
Management responsibility of Head Coach, Performance Support Officer, and Part time Competitions Officer, with a clear focus upon collaboration with the Celtic Dragons

Ensure world class support services for the performance programmes including sports science and medicine service and training facilities.

Set, deliver and report to the CEO on the strategic and operational plans and budgets for performance as a whole.

Have responsibility for the annual performance department budget and assist the CEO constructing annual budgets and monitoring.

To fulfil the role as Head of Delegation/Team Leader for appropriate World Championships, Netball Europe and Commonwealth Games (across relevant age groups)

Ensure effective management of the players and any welsh contracts

Ensure the integration of and contribution to, all WN policies into performance programmes specifically but not exclusively; safeguarding, anti-doping, equality, Health and Safety & Byelaws

Ensure there are robust talent Identification, player , umpire, officials pathways and selection processes in place

Accountability for monitoring and reviewing all performance related areas of the business

Manage CPD of all Elite coaches and umpires

Implement a system for selection of squads at all levels inline with WN selection policy

Prepare the performance structures for future world Cup and Commonwealth Games success

Manage all Wales age group squads, including clearly defining the way to play and setting specific, age related outcomes for players, coaches and Umpires in the performance pathway.

Recommend appropriate structures for the higher levels of performance competitions in Wales (Area, County, Club etc) at the differing age levels

Responsibility for managing all issues relating to the National Anti-Doping Organisation and other INF or WADA anti-doping directives and guidelines

Work collaboratively with the Head of Development to ensure community and performance is integrated, particularly around workforce development.

Ensure all logistical, marketing, publicity, planning, transport, Kit and media are handled by and with the appropriate team member in a timely manner.

To carry out strategic management of residential and non-residential national and international netball partnerships and camps.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external partners and stakeholders who contribute to the success of performance objectives and programmes.
Key relationships include (not exhaustive list): athletes, coaches, clubs, UK Sport, Sport Wales, CWG Wales, UKAD, HE institutions.

Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

Demonstrable recent experience of leading a team operating in elite sport at the highest level
A comprehensive understanding of coaching, sport science and medicine, international competition and talent pathways
A broad understanding and commitment to safeguarding young people in a talent environment
A management, sport science or business studies qualification or similar
Working with public funding agencies
Full driving licence and strong IT skills
