Kicks is a social inclusion project that is delivered across Watford, Harrow and Hillingdon to help reduce anti-social behaviour in local communities. The Premier League’s flagship initiative aims to divert hard-to-reach young people via a range of positive activities and accredited outcomes;
• Offer free sessions to young people aged 8-18 throughout the week during community hours
• Increase the playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for participants
• Encourage volunteering and involvement in social action projects to give back to the local community
• Create routes into education, training and employment
• Break down barriers between young people and the police
• Educate young people on current issues through workshops and youth forums
Skills required
• A passion to deliver fun, engaging and interactive sessions to young people aged 8-18 which provide positive opportunities and in turn create safer and stronger communities
• Ability to develop positive relationships with young people
• Understand the importance of and deliver best practice when working with hard-to-reach young people
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
• Commitment to providing great customer care
• Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good working relationships
• Ability to work on your own initiative and be creative in your thinking and planning
• A positive ‘can do’ attitude, always looking for solutions to problems or issues
• Ability to problem solve and manage multiple tasks
• Have excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
• Have a flexible approach to work and be able to work unsociable hours (including some evenings and weekends)
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated
• Understanding of and a commitment to health & safety, equal opportunities and data protection policies and procedures
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum Level 1 and hold up to date safeguarding and emergency first aid certificates
• Youth Work qualification and proven track record of working with hard-to-reach young people
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
This is a zero hour contract role, most of our coaches initially start with between 6 – 10 hours of coaching per week, depending on qualifications, experience and performance this can very quickly increase to 10 – 15 hours per week and so on. Some of our current sessional coaches deliver 20 – 30 hours per week across various programmes.
Applicants will need have a flexible approach to work, with evening and weekend projects a possibility. This position is for a casual worker, with hours varying according to assignments.
