We’re looking for someone to cover a maternity leave for 12 months as a Production Editor for Which? Gardening magazine. If you feel you would like an opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones then this could be the opportunity for you.
What you’ll be doing
As a Production Editor you will be planning work schedules with the Which? Gardening team and ensuring that all magazines hit their deadlines. You will create and circulate magazine colour proofs to all stakeholders and be responsible for uploading PDFs to the printer on press day.
You will delegate Gardening subbing work to colleagues and ensure that content conforms to all relevant editorial guidelines and house style. A reasonable amount of your time will also be spent subbing and proofreading content yourself for Which.co.uk and the other Which? magazines, as well as assisting the other production editors with ad hoc work from other Which? departments.
You will need to be a super-organised, diplomatic problem solver who will be able to tackle any editorial and production issues that may occur.
What we’re looking for
· A clear track record of successfully editing and subbing content and scheduling work for a magazine, newspaper or website.
· Clear, concise, informative and grammatically correct writing skills with a great attention to detail. Must be numerate and comfortable with data.
· Expert user of InDesign, able to produce press-ready pages.
· Ability to prioritise and balance demands from several sources. Able to influence others and gain their cooperation to meet deadlines.
· Confident and calm under pressure; successful at meeting multiple and overlapping deadlines.
· Experience of working on a day-to-day basis with a desktop publishing system and/or a content management system. Knowledge of HTML and Photoshop.
· Experience of working with a range of writers and editorial styles.
What we offer
We’ll expect a lot of you, but you can expect just as much in return. Which? has one of the most comprehensive rewards packages around — one that includes a generous pension scheme, 28 days’ holiday, private medical insurance after 6 months service, free life assurance, interest-free season ticket loan and much more besides.
