On behalf of our Appointments Committee, thank you for your interest in this non-executive volunteering opportunity.
About the Audit Committee:
The Audit Committee is appointed by the Board of Trustees to assist the Board in discharging its oversight responsibilities. It does this by providing the key link between the Director-General and the Executive Team, the Board of Trustees and the external auditors. The Committee also scrutinises financial reporting, risk management and internal control issues.
The Committee meets four times a year at appropriate times in the reporting and audit cycle and otherwise as required and is chaired by a member of our Board of Trustees.
You will find further details of the Audit Committee’s role here, the qualities and experience required of its members here, and the principles underlying governance appointments in the Trust. These details are extracted from our Governance Handbook which is available in full here.
About You:
We are looking for an individual with financial expertise to join our Audit Committee to provide independent, objective and challenging advice to support the Board of Trustees in their responsibilities for risk management, internal controls, audit and associated assurance processes within the Trust, as well as year-end financial statements and the Trust’s annual report.
You will have strong accountancy and financial expertise including familiarity with current ways of raising finance, a deep familiarity and understanding of financial statements, know the right questions to ask of management or the auditors and interpret and evaluate the answers. You will have extensive senior financial management and accounting experience gained in a variety of sectors as an experienced FD or Audit Partner and ideally will have previous non-executive experience. You must be experienced in reviewing and commenting on the preparation and finalisation of annual reports and accounts. Knowledge of charity accounting and an understanding of the role of an Audit Committee would be an advantage.
Please note that anyone who is appointed to this role should be, or have arrangements in hand to become, a member of the National Trust.
