Online grocery retail is big business: worth c£8bn, it’s also growing fast: at double the rate of the discounters in fact. That’s why The Grocer, the multi-award-winning bible of the food and drink industry, is looking to appoint a specialist in e-commerce.
Online grocery isn’t just a growth opportunity. It’s also a real minefield: how do you make money, how do you drive impulse purchases, how do you even keep up, as technology evolves at such a rapid pace?
And for all the giants of online grocery (Amazon is set to launch Amazon Fresh this autumn), there are also minnows who are showing them up with their dexterity and smarts.
Then there are the suppliers, setting up specialist sales and support teams to try to navigate the alternative dynamics.
We won’t limit your patch to just e-commerce. You’ll also cover other areas of the £175bn grocery retail sector. But this is an exciting opportunity for a curious, talented and ambitious reporter to make a name for themselves, and stamp their authority on The Grocer’s coverage in this period of deep structural change.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced reporter with a proven record in breaking news stories. You will also be expected to write analysis pieces, blogs, leaders, profiles and features.
Proficiency in the use of audio-visual and social media are an advantage, though not essential.
The competition is fierce (our biggest rivals are the nationals) but for the right candidate it’s a rewarding and fulfilling role. You’ll be working on one of the biggest, most highly regarded B2B titles in the country.
Benefits include:
A contributory pension scheme
Life Assurance
25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
Discounted gym membership
Free car parking
Free shuttle service from Three Bridges station if you travel in by train
