Due to a restructure of our editorial teams, Agile Media Ltd is looking for an Editor for the industry leading magazine Off Licence News. We are looking for a dynamic individual, preferably with experience in the drinks market. The editor is not just the leading journalist on Off Licence News, but a figurehead for the magazine in the marketplace and a focus for the commercial activity surrounding it. He or she will play a pivotal role in existing F2F activity, direct OLN’s online presence and communication via social media, and work with the publisher and advertising teams to identify and capitalise on new revenue streams for the title.
The brand is long established and has recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. Publisher Agile Media Ltd is a small but fast growing company of some 25 staff based in Crawley. OLN is known for its high editorial standards, which must be maintained. This is a very public role as there is a strong ambassadorial element to the job, but in addition personal copy output is vital to the role as is activity online and via social media forums. The brand’s wide range of F2F activities, from awards and exhibitions, to round tables and networking events, must be delivered on time and to budget with attractive content that attracts sponsorship and attendees.
The successful applicant will be likely to have some relevant management experience, either as an editor or as a senior deputy/managing editor.
Key tasks
Work with MD and publisher to agree an editorial strategy
Work closely with editor of Harpers to ensure that the sister titles exploit synergies between the magazines and their events
Ensure print, online and social media content is in line with strategy and fits in with brand values
Lead team to develop all aspects of the Off Licence News brand, including conferences and awards
Work with art and subs desk to meet agreed production deadlines
Develop industry contacts/relationships, representing the title to the industry it serves
Ensure news content is relevant to the OLN readership, with exclusives wherever possible
Ensure OLN’s features meet the demands of the features list and provide authoritative commentary on the issues facing the market as well as up-to- date product information
Establish social media presence for the brand(s) in agreement with management team and maintain as required
Nurture talent on the team, conducting regular appraisals and offering constructive criticism on a one-to-one basis
Establish a good working relationship with all regular contributors, replacing them and/or recruiting new writers where appropriate
Deliver full range of F2F activity on time and to budget
Maintain excellent relations with commercial stakeholders
Speak publicly at awards ceremonies, conferences and other events
Travel overseas as required to attend exhibitions, and visit clients
Key skills
An accomplished B2B journalist with a track record of success in print and online
Ability to deliver sparkling copy, and value-added content to demanding daily deadlines
First class interviewing, news reporting and editing skills
Proven organisational and strategic thinking skills
Excellent inter-personal skills
Track record of innovative thinking and ability to implement change
Charisma to represent the title to target audience and customers
Web editing, posting and software knowledge
Strong team spirit and ability to partner others working on joint projects
