Editor – Institution of Lighting Professionals – London, England

The Lighting Journal is the monthly magazine of the Institution of Lighting Professionals, the most influential lighting association in the UK and Ireland. The Lighting Journal is distributed to diverse groups of lighting professionals including lighting designers, consultants and engineers. It principally comprises technical papers, technological trends, case studies, communication, current issues, events and institution updates.

This position is a freelance assignment for a period of 3 years.

Subject knowledge required

Experience of producing a periodical publication preferably for a professional membership association would be desirable.

The role includes

Overseeing the content of technical articles
Generating ideas for articles for discussion with an Editorial Board
Commissioning articles from contributors within the profession
Selecting feature articles for each issue
Writing, editing and re-writing articles
Working closely with designers and production team
Sending out briefs to writers
Proofreading/amending all pages before going to press
Building networks at Institution and industry events

Editorial experience required of applicant

Specialist knowledge is not essential, but experience of: managing content, working to schedules and working with designers is required.

Amount of work involved

The Journal is 10 issues per year and 52 pages (including cover)

Location

The majority of the work can be done remotely. However, the Editor will be expected to attend meetings several times a year, generally held in London and the Midlands.
