Job title: Editor of Premier Youthwork & Premier Childrenswork
Salary: £27,000- £30,000 pa depending on skills and experience
Location: London (SW1)
Hours of work: 35 hours a week (this may be reduced to 28 hours a week depending on the candidate)

Purpose of the role

The Editor should maintain editorial content to the ethos, values, broad theological evangelical spectrum of Premier Youthwork and Premier Childrenswork magazine so that the magazine continues to appeal to a large majority of its current readers as well as appeal to new readers.

Key tasks

Edit the contents of Premier Youthwork and Premier Childrenswork to a high standard.
Ensure that Premier Youthwork and Premier Childrenswork editorial costs keep within budget.
Liaise with magazine designer to ensure timely and high quality magazine design in print and electronic formats.
Commission copy with a cross platform approach; seeking where possible for the words to transfer beyond print into digital and audio formats.
Liaise with content staff across all platforms to achieve high levels of synergy, and cross platform working so content that works across platforms are identified and produced
Achieving multi use of editorial copy across platforms and ensuring the cross platform options are identified and highlighted to readers, listeners, web visitors.
Be the spokesperson and brand champion of Premier Youthwork and Premier Childrenswork across all Premier platforms.
Edit and sub editorial copy.
Commission, edit and contribute to podcasts, blogs, websites, Twitter, Facebook and other social media tools to promote all platforms and signal editorial copy.
Liaise with the marketing department to identify and implement strategies which grow the circulation.
Liaise with Advertisement Manager to provide regularly updated magazine grids, discuss and develop advertising leads and agree on an ad friendly feature in each issue.
Oversee the timely despatch of good quality copy to design, proof pages and sign off the magazine according to the agreed monthly deadlines and schedules.
Liaise regularly with the Deputy CEO/ Editorial Director who should consulted over any changes to editorial policy and over major commissions or new projects.
Provide a weekly report to your line manager identifying key achievements, problems, meetings and progress against KPIs.
Liaise with New Media department to ensure Premier Youthwork, Premier Childrenswork web sites and digital editions are produced within budget, deadlines and to good quality complimenting the paper editions.
Oversee and manage editorial staff and designers.
Attend where appropriate marketing or editorial meetings.
Alongside the Editorial Director to seek out and develop relationships with denominations/ organisations / distributors to develop increased sales and/ or bulk orders. Also to network and build on relationships with existing bulk order contacts.
Liaise with consultants, consulting editors and contributors to build strong links and promote the brands effectively.
Input into Youthwork Summit and other magazine related conferences, events.

Qualifications & experience

A successful track record in writing and editing.
Understanding of and ideally experience in working across media platforms.
An understanding, knowledge and sympathy with Christian youth and childrenswork/ministry. This should include an awareness and sympathy with the broad Christian and specifically evangelical position these magazines represent.
Professional youth work and or children’s work and writing/ editing qualifications are an advantage.

Abilities & skills

Good computer literacy essential and written and oral communication skills.
Competent administration skills, multi-tasking, prioritising and organisational skills.
Able to work using own initiative and manage other staff.
Able to effectively network with youth workers, children’s workers and Christian leaders.
Places high value on a professional level of editorial quality and service to all platform consumers.

Peresonal qualities

The post-holder will work in a Christian environment and will deal with Christian organisations and will need to be in sympathy with the Christian faith and values.
The post-holder will need to be well presented and be prepared to work flexible hours where required.
