We are looking for an experienced Editor to strengthen our editorial proposition and consolidate our market leading position.
This is a unique opportunity to manage a publication producing news stories of national importance covering high profile politics, crime, legislation and social issues.
Police Oracle also serves as a professional journal, providing in depth analysis and comment of both general issues such as pay and conditions and policy, as well as key specialist areas such as major crime, forensics, counter terrorism, firearms, public order.
You will be working in a modern office in the popular and lively Farringdon area of London with excellent transport links.
This role is an ideal next step for an ambitious Editor looking to work for a successful, fast growing business, with the opportunity to manage a busy team of reporters and develop new editorial content and services.
Key responsibilities
Management of in-house journalist team to ensure daily news production, whilst balancing resources to facilitate production of in-depth features and comment as well as planning event attendance.
Management and growth of external resources including freelance journalists and contributors.
Quality assurance – diligent enforcement of editorial standards
Content development – work with the Commercial Director to develop our editorial proposition with new unique content and services, providing in depth analysis, content and practice to promote paid subscription growth
Team building – shape and develop the team to achieve our business goals and facilitate career development opportunities.
Process management – ensure the implementation and maintenance of editorial processes to ensure quality and maximise productivity
Manage department budgets including commissioning, T&E and image budgets
Experience and skills
Minimum 2 years experience in an editorial management role ( Editor or deputy )
Minimum 5 years editorial experience
Recognised qualification in journalism
Must be a talented writer/editor with a strong news and B2B portfolio, showcasing exceptional writing skills and an excellent command of grammar, spelling and various writing styles
Must be able to demonstrate an analytical approach, able to understand and write in-depth and technical articles, encouraging the team to achieve the same standards
Proven success, implementing new content and services and managing projects
Must be organised, efficient and a great planner, able to work on own initiative and under pressure of deadlines
Will possess a strong personality, excellent communication and interpersonal skills with well-developed problem solving & time management skills
Strong attention to detail, especially in production quality assurance
Must be able to implement and manage change
A strong interest in current affairs, politics and crime would be beneficial
