With 50,000 subscribers, and shortlisted for a BSME award, Which? Travel is going places. And we need an experienced editor like you to take us there.
Not only do we stand out as completely independent (that’s right, no freebies), we are also the only travel magazine that has a full-time investigations team. We pride ourselves on telling it like it is.
We’re offering a unique opportunity for you to bring your vision into a role that truly has the consumer at its heart.
What you’ll be doing
You will take responsibility for the commissioning, development, and success of our travel content, both in print and online. You’ll get a thrill out of tackling consumer insights and market trends to help find our next big investigation or un-missable holiday destination.
You’ll be building on a great product. Our exposés into Tripadviser and cancellation fees made headlines and piled pressure on the industry to improve. Our destination articles are written by some of the best writers around, and feature practical, money-saving advice. That’s because we are dedicated not only to giving travel inspiration but also advice that improves the lives of our readers, and consumers in general.
Our retention numbers show how much our readers love our content, but we’re looking for ways to engage with even more people. You’ll bring new and innovative ideas to demonstrate how Which? Travel goes above and beyond. While our budgets might be more conservative than those of our competitors, your passion and creative thinking will bring out the best of our resources.
While your duties won’t include line management, you’ll need to develop strong relationships across the Editorial team. Your influencing skills will be key in guiding the team to achieve success. This will extend to working closely with our Press Office and Campaigns teams to help strengthen our voice externally.
What we’re looking for
We need you to have extensive experience of commissioning and editing travel content for a consumer audience (print and online). However, if you’re an experienced travel writer with a little commissioning experience, we’d also be keen to hear from you. You’ll need innovative thinking and the drive to make things happen. We need you to have fantastic understanding of research, writing and images. You’ll need to develop strong relationships, both internally and externally so excellent communication skills are a must.
Finally, we’re looking for an appreciation of consumer issues.
What we’ll give you in return
Our rewards package is one of the best out there. You’ll get 28 days’ annual leave, an interest-free season ticket loan, life assurance, and a pension scheme that increases to 11% after you’ve been here for a year. You’ll also get the chance to develop your career, with a big focus on internal development. You can work every day knowing that you’re playing your part in making consumers as powerful as the organisations they deal with.
The legal stuff
We don’t mean to sound bureaucratic, but there are certain boxes we have to tick. Eligibility to live and work in the UK is one of them. We need you to confirm in your application that you are able to accept a role without the need for sponsorship. We really don’t want to waste your time, so please only apply if you are an EU citizen or hold a valid Visa. We will ask to see your passport (or equivalent) at interview stage.
