FundFire, the leading publication covering the U.S. institutional/high net worth investment management industry, is seeking a reporter to join its team of talented, motivated editorial staff.
The new hire will be responsible for covering the hedge fund market, writing in-depth, analytical pieces that help our readers understand how to build and maintain a successful alternative investment business. The reporter will primarily contribute to FundFire Alts, a weekly alternative investment publication. In this role, the reporter will be expected to assist the FundFire Alts Associate Managing Editor in editing copy and selecting news stories for upcoming issues. The reporter will also act as a deputy responsible for assigning stories, publishing the weekly issue, and managing other editorial tasks as needed.

FundFire’s 90,000-strong readership runs the gamut of the U.S. institutional/high net worth investment management industry, including the investment managers that manage and market institutional investment products, the investment offices of wealth managers, investment consultants, defined benefit pension funds, university endowments, nonprofits and foundations, as well as financial advisors.
The reporter will be based in the New York offices of Money-Media, a unit of the Financial Times, which owns and operates FundFire.
Duties
Reporting duties: The reporter will be expected to produce roughly two to three stories a week. The reporter will unearth news, trends or developments in the hedge fund industry and use analytical, quantitative and/or documentary material, as well as interviews, to explore all aspects of the story. The reporter will be expected to develop a network of sources to generate news scoops, story ideas and insights to share with readers. We prize actionable, insightful and concise content.
Editing duties: Edit copy as needed from the Associate Managing editor. Serve as deputy for FundFire Alts and step in to oversee the publication when needed.
The reporter will be expected to contribute to all formats of FundFire editorial, including video interviews and features, online discussions, webcasts, and whatever else comes up. There are occasional opportunities to have work republished in the FT and travel to conferences.

Qualifications/Attributes
In-depth experience in beat reporting and in writing longer analytical articles
Experience covering hedge funds is a major plus
Experience working with reporters to shape stories
Experience with content in multiple formats (e.g. photo, video, charts & graphs, etc.) and reworking stories from concept to publication
Excellent editorial judgment
Attention to detail
Ability to work in a team environment and productively collaborate with other journalists
