The Independent is looking for reporters to work across a broad news remit for independent.co.uk, as part of a dynamic and growing digital news desk. Breaking news will be the focus, but some production work will be expected, and there may be opportunities to news edit and edit the homepage. There will also be opportunities to write for i100.co.uk.

Full-time or part-time roles will be considered. Competitive salary dependent upon experience.

Essential requirements:

Accuracy and speed to cover breaking news
A flair for spotting trending stories and covering them with an intelligent and distinctive light touch
A good understanding of social media both as a source of news and a means of distribution
Good knowledge of politics, world affairs and online culture
An eye for pictures and video
Working practical knowledge of UK media law
Flexibility to cover a variety of shifts

Preferred skills/experience:

Strong personal social media presence
Basic Photoshop experience
Practical news-based SEO
A journalism qualification
