Charities are always in the news: they’ve raised millions for the Nepal earthquake, been accused of hounding the elderly for donations, and been exploited as tax avoidance vehicles. They’re also at the heart of the big society idea, revived by the prime minister in the Conservatives’ recent election manifesto. These are the lively stories you would follow and develop as a reporter for Third Sector, the leading UK website and monthly magazine covering charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises. You would be part of a nine-strong team currently working in Teddington but shortly to move to Twickenham, only 12 minutes by rail from Clapham Junction.
As well as writing news for our website and daily email bulletins, you would be responsible for one or more specialisms and write features, analyses and interviews. This is a varied and exciting role, with great opportunities for career development. Salary will be according to experience.
The successful candidate will be:
A qualified journalist with several years’ experience on a newspaper, magazine or website
Proficient in the use of social media
Familiar with the workings of national and local government and the courts
Interested in politics and social affairs
Capable of mastering complex stories quickly
Able to produce clear and engaging copy for both news and features
Enterprising and adaptable
