The Press Association is seeking a talented writer to help produce editorial content on the TV section of BT.com, the highly trafficked website which PA manages on behalf of BT.
The successful candidate will be tasked with helping establish the site as a go-to destination for users looking for news, info and opinion on TV shows available on linear platforms (eg Freeview) and TV from BT services (eg YouView).
Working closely alongside the TV Content Manager, you’ll be expected to create compelling editorial (including reaction pieces and list-style features) on a daily basis. Other tasks include attending events, sourcing video and helping to manage social channels.
The job is ideally suited to TV addicts keen to write about everything from Corrie, ‘Enders and the biggest watercooler reality shows, to quirky stuff further down the listings and the latest Netflix releases.
To be considered for the role, you MUST have experience of working on at least one major website. A full list of requirements is below.
This is a full-time position, with most of the work during standard office hours. However, you will be expected to work some evening shifts when required.
The Press Association offices are situated very close to Victoria Station in the heart of London.
Main responsibilities
Monitor sources for breaking and interesting news and developments in the world of TV
Create original content, including news stories, features, interviews, opinion pieces, photo galleries, live blogs and competitions
Track performance of content to aid understanding of audience habits
Identify and source compelling video (eg trailers, clips)
Assist in the management of the TV pages on BT.com, ensuring that the best and most relevant content is promoted at all times
Attend press events and launches in order to source exclusive/original content for BT.com
Help manage/suggest content for social media channel
Requirements/competencies
Hold a degree or NCTJ qualification
Experience in writing on TV for at least one major website, working full-time or as a regular, office-based freelancer
Genuine passion for TV – particularly soaps, dramas, talent shows and documentaries
A specific interest in British soaps, including expert knowledge of Coronation Street and/or EastEnders
Strong creative skills – specifically, ability to create and present content in innovative ways and often from ‘nothing’
A solid understanding of SEO (writing for the Web)
Proficient in use of Adobe Photoshop (or similar)
Experience working with a web-based content management system
Basic understanding of web analytics
An established social media presence (preferred)
Experience in producing video (preferred)
Knowledge of TV from BT services (BT TV and YouView) would be an advantage
