Job Description
The opportunity has arisen to join a progressive and dynamic sport medicine and sports science department at Scunthorpe United FC. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Medicine & Sports Science and take an active role in the care of 1st team players but will also oversee the medical set up at academy levels. The position requires part time commitment to both training venues and also home match-day responsibility.
The Role
o To provide match day medical cover for all first team home games.
o To provide medical treatment for the first team players when required.
o To run a clinic at the club for players to be medically assessed when required.
o To be active in contributing to internal CPD practice for the department.
o In conjunction with the Head of Medicine & Sports Science/ Head Physiotherapist, undertake medical screening in accordance with the football League requirements on both current players and potential signings.
o To assess, diagnose and formulate appropriate treatment plans and medical conditions.
o To ensure accurate recording of medical notes on the club’s electronic medical records
o To be instrumental in ensuring equipment is maintained to safe and effective standards.
o To ensure that player’s cardiac screening is up to date and protocols are put in place to provide regular screening of players through a variety of tests.
Experience and Qualifications
o A medical practitioner of good standing on the General Medical Council (GMC)
Specific Experience:
The successful candidate must:
o Hold current AREA certificate or an equivalent or higher professional qualification approved by the FA/football league or if not, be willing to undertake the AREA course.
o Comply with the GMC’s requirements concerning annual appraisal and periodic revalidation of doctors.
Additional requirements:
o Experience within elite sport, some ideally in professional football
o Appropriate medical indemnity insurance
o A degree of flexibility with regard to availability will be essential
o Be able to show evidence of on-going CPD
o Knowledge of the FA Anti-doping and WADA regulations
o Experience with adolescent patients
o Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable:
o Advanced MSK imaging qualification/experience to allow for on site interpretation of results/scans
o Evidence of image guided injection therapy.
o Previous experience of A&E work
Remuneration
To be discussed at interview, will be based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience.
