Exercise Physiologist
Salary: £25,440 – £28, 746 per annum (Grade F)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Flexible working 36.25 per week (may include evenings and weekends)
Location: Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service – various sites (Including Swinton and Manchester centre)

The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Exercise Physiologist to join our growing OD, Leadership and Health and Wellbeing team. Your role will involve inspiring and equipping our workforce with the desire and skills to be physically fit and active. You’ll lead on the design, development and delivery of a full breadth of activity associated with physical fitness, from assessing operational fitness to leading on wellbeing promotion campaigns.
This is a varied and challenging role and we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running in what is set to be an exciting year for us. You will be the primary Exercise Physiologist expert within the organisation, advising key stakeholders in the organisation on physical fitness and shaping future fitness procedures, policies and activities within the service. You’ll also play a crucial part in integrating our wider physical, mental and emotional health offer.
Who we need
The ideal candidate will have a real understanding of building the momentum to connect people’s fitness desires to an organisational fitness agenda. You’ll have a background in Sports/Exercise Physiology and a sound knowledge in human physiology, exercise biochemistry, anatomy/biomechanics and nutrition.

Main responsibilities include:
• Design and implement a variety of fitness training packages and programmes
• Analyse intelligence to identify and address issues and trends in relation to health and wellbeing
• Lead activity to increase expertise on human physiology, exercise biochemistry, anatomy/biomechanics and nutrition
• Design and deliver fitness/health and promotion campaigns
• Support wider HR & OD activities including attraction and retention campaigns and initiatives
• Build effective relationships with clients, customers and key stakeholders
• Research initiatives to further the development of fitness issues across the service and UK Fire services as a whole
• Support the team to monitor, review and update policies and procedures
What you will need:
Education, qualifications and associations:
Essential
• Good standard of education
• Qualified PT instructor
Desirable
• Degree in Sport Science or Sport Physiology
• First aid at work certificate
• IOSH Managing Safely
• FAETC Adult Education Teachers Certificate
• Advanced Nutrition/Nutritional Advice qualification
Knowledge and experience
Essential
• Knowledge and understanding of human physiology and anatomy
• Knowledge and experience of exercise biochemistry and biomechanics
• Knowledge and understanding of nutrition in relation to physiology
• Experience delivering excellent client services and continuous improvement
• Training and coaching colleagues in physical fitness activities
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
• In-depth knowledge of up to date practice and current trends
• Experience in producing reports and/or research papers
• Relationship management
