Head of Customer Relationship Management / Fundraising Development – Arthritis Research UK – London

Arthritis is the biggest cause of pain and disability in the UK – more than one in six people of all ages suffer from it. For the past 75 years, Arthritis Research UK has been striving to do something about the devastating impact of arthritis on so many lives. It is the only charity in Britain solely dedicated to funding research into arthritis in all its forms and it is also the largest charitable funder of arthritis research in Europe. The charity’s aspirational vision is a future free of arthritis and everything they do aims to take the pain away from people with arthritis and enable them to remain active, doing the things they love.

Arthritis Research UK depends entirely on public support and the generosity of its donors. Approximately three quarters of the charity’s funding comes from legacy income and its intellectual property rights and therefore represents a significant amount of income. A key goal for the fundraising team is to successfully protect and increase its legacy income, whilst growing and diversifying its other income streams, particularly direct fundraising. A fundraising strategy to 2016 was launched in April 2013 which focused heavily on building the infrastructure from which to achieve this growth longer term.

As the organisation looks forward to the next 5 years with a refreshed strategy beginning April 2015, we have identified that significantly growing the supporter base and improving the effectiveness of our relationship management in relation to income generation is a critical success factor in the organisation achieving its longer term aims. This role will play a key part in developing and delivering this.
As Head of CRM & Fundraising Development you will be leading a diverse team to develop and champion the highest standards of supporter relationship management and professional fundraising across the whole of the Directorate. This will include CRM, supporter care, supporter journey, fundraising database analytics and development, internal and external information management, sector research and fundraising compliance.

We are now looking for an experienced and skilled individual to lead this relatively newly formed team. You will be an excellent communicator with significant knowledge in using fundraising CRM databases in order to drive donor experience, value and volume and be able to provide oversight, direction and challenge on all aspects of customer relationship management. You will be process driven with a keen interest in identifying and promoting synergies and integration across all areas of fundraising.

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising you will also be a key member of the Fundraising Management Team (FMT) and be responsible for contributing to the overall leadership and management of the Fundraising Directorate. A key role for all Heads of Fundraising is to work collaboratively across the directorate, including identifying and promoting synergies and integration of activity in order to grow income and build the best possible supporter relationships and experience.

You will have an understanding of mass direct marketing techniques in relation to fundraising and have experience of effectively designing and delivering CRM solutions (both marketing and technological) that provide a solid platform from which income generation can grow
