Job Description
West Bromwich Albion FC Academy Medical Department is seeking a Senior Academy Physiotherapist to work primarily with the Elite Development Squad (U23s). This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive physiotherapist with a passion for sports injury assessment, management and prevention to join a Sports Medicine Department at a Category 1 Academy.
The successful applicant will require experience working with sportsmen at a high level and will be expected to follow the U23s weekly schedule, which includes evening and weekend work. There will be the requirement to cover matches, training and tours (national and international), managing clinical caseloads and act as a senior clinician to support other Academy Medical staff.
Please note the vacancy is specific to qualified chartered physiotherapists only.
The key responsibilities are to:
• To ensure Professional Development Phase (PDP) squad players under your care receive appropriate assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
• To liaise daily with the Head of Sports Science and Medicine and other staff in the PDP to provide/establish injury and treatment strategies for players under your duty of care.
• To continue to progress and improve injury prevention strategies across the PDP squads
• To ensuring that appropriate medical cover and equipment is provided at all relevant training sessions, tournaments and games
• To monitor, maintain and up-date your relevant medical qualifications and registrations and meet annually with the Head of Sports Science and Medicine to ensure current qualifications meet the necessary requirements of the relevant governing bodies.
• To provide effective communication strategies to inform relevant staff of the progress of players under your care, in particular the, Head of Sports Science and Medicine, the Academy Manager and the relevant Coaching Staff.
• To monitor and reflect upon the practices and treatment you provide to ensure continual professional development.
• To attend relevant safeguarding presentations and ensure you are practicing within the guidelines set by the Safeguarding Officer. To communicate with the Academy Manager and Safeguarding officer if there are any safeguarding queries or issues.
• To ensure all medical records are maintained and up dated accordingly and also in line with the relevant bodies rules and regulations. To ensure that medical records include the relevant information to allow completion of monthly injury audits across all age groups.
• To liaise with parents as and when necessary to provide them with the relevant information
• To ensure all relevant medical and sports science data is processed into the Performance Management Application (PMA).
• To assist the other Academy Physiotherapists to ensure the Academy Medical Department is efficient and effective across all phases.
• To liaise with the Academy Doctor when necessary
• To adhere to club policies with particular emphasis to safeguarding children and equity.
• To assist in the implementation and delivery of screening and prehabilitation programmes
• To ensure all Individual Player Programmes are delivered and adhered to
• To contribute to Individual Player Reviews
• To ensure the Academy Performance Plan underpins the work of the department.
Requirements:
• Chartered Physiotherapist
• HCPC and CSP registered
• Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience
• Evidence of significant experience within elite sport
• Able to be flexible with their working week
• Driving license and car
• First Aid in Sport Certification
Desirable:
• Relevant Masters Level Qualification
• Safeguarding Children
• FA CRB
• Previous experience of EPPP and PMA
• In date FA Advanced Resuscitation & Emergency Aid Course (AREA) or equivalent
The majority of work will be held at the WBAFC primary training complex; based in Walsall, West Midlands. The successful candidate will receive training kit, work laptop and phone. There will be the opportunity for comprehensive internal and external Continued Professional Development (CPD).
