Sports Development Officer – WheelPower- British Wheelchair Sport

Job Description
We are the national charity for wheelchair sport based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Buckinghamshire. We provide opportunities, facilities, expertise and equipment that enable disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity and lead healthy active lives.
We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Sport Development Officer to
manage and drive forward our sports event and participation programmes. You will need demonstrable experience of working in a sports delivery environment and a proven track record of organising and running successful events.
You will have a good understanding of the sector, as well as a desire to work within sport for disabled people and a passion for organising events, aimed primarily at young and newly disabled people.
This role requires availability on some evenings and weekends to deliver the events programme which will also include some national travel.

Primary Purpose: To manage, coordinate and implement delivery of events and programmes that provide more opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport and physical activity and lead healthy active lives.

Key Duties:
1. To lead, manage and deliver a programme of events at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and other selected locations within in UK, to increase the numbers of disabled people taking part in sport and physical activity including:
• Managing all event operations relating to venues, sports programme and deliverers.
• Ensuring systems are in place which will enable coaches to be identified, recruited and coordinated effectively.
• Recruiting and training volunteers to support the delivery of sports activity at events.
• Ensuring all events and programmes are delivered within budget and maintain accurate financial records.
• In conjunction with WheelPower staff members; undertake consultation; capture feedback and evaluation from participants; parents, coaches and teachers to improve our insight into the needs of disabled people.
• Delivery of WheelPower’s ABC Courses to introduce coaches and others to the basics of wheelchair sport.
• Maintenance and oversight of WheelPower’s sports equipment for use at events and activities.
2. To build and maintain positive relationships and develop links with appropriate partners including national governing body of sports, disability sports organisations, county sports partnerships, local councils, disabled peoples’ organisations, education sector and health/physiotherapy networks.
3. To assist with the development of a database and tracking systems for analysis of participation levels and for customer retention and continued support.
4. To ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place and records maintained (DBS checks, safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults, risk assessments etc.).
5. To provide advice, information and training to upskill and educate the sport and non-sport disability sector to become more effective in delivering and providing sport to wheelchair users.
6. To maintain and update a sports calendar of events and activities at Stoke Mandeville stadium.
7. To provide support to WheelPower’s Member Sports as required.
8. To support the marketing and communications of opportunities within sport and physical activity for disabled people in conjunction with the Communications and Engagement team.
9. To produce written progress reports as required by WheelPower’s Head of Sport and Physical Activity, Sports Management Committee and Board.
