Due to the forthcoming retirement of our long standing and popular Headteacher, the governors are looking for an outstanding and inspirational individual to lead our school during an exciting and challenging phase – to build on our current strengths and to help us to reach our full potential.

Devizes School is a co-educational, 11-18 secondary school with 1,017 students and a new, state-of-the-art sixth form, having converted to academy status in September 2012.  Based in the heart of the thriving Wiltshire market town of Devizes, the school benefits from excellent facilities, occupying a beautiful Grade 2 listed building in spacious grounds.

We’re very proud of our school and its achievements, and want to appoint a Headteacher who shares our vision to create an environment where all young people are valued equally and where everyone strives for excellence, for the benefit of our students and the local community.

Our last Ofsted report in February 2012 was a very positive one, grading every aspect of our work as ‘Good’ and making many references to areas of outstanding practice.

What we’re looking for

An outstanding, inspirational and visible leader – one who actively seeks out and values the opinions of staff, students, parents and the local community.
A qualified teacher, with the credibility, resilience and determination to lead a medium-sized school with a clear vision and focus.
A strong track record of improving educational standards and achievement, and of promoting a school positively in its local community
A sound understanding of school finances and the willingness to take tough decisions when necessary, in the best interests of students.
An outward-facing and open-minded leader who is able to recognise and build on a school’s strengths while driving continuous improvement.
Someone with at least three years’ experience of a senior leadership role, preferably in a secondary school with a sixth form.

You’ll also need to share our aims and values, which we have set out in our ‘CORE’ principle

Commitment – This is the first requirement in the pursuance of excellence.  Everybody in the process must demonstrate 100% commitment to the process of learning.

Ownership – It is essential that everyone feels that they have an equal stake in the success of the learning process.  Students’ opinions and ideas are sought, valued and appreciated.  Lessons need to be led as much by the students as the teachers.

Responsibility – The success of the learning process is the responsibility of the teacher and the students.  Students have a responsibility to themselves and to their peers for helping to make the learning process a successful one.

Excellence – Excellence is what we are all striving for; to be the best that we can be.  This is the goal for the teachers as well as the students.

What we can offer
