Albion in the Community’s Premier League (PL) Primary Stars programme will see schools provided with high quality support and activity that uses the appeal of the PL and Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club (BHAFC) to inspire pupils in everything from English and Maths to teamwork and sport.
Our Primary Stars Sports Mentors will deliver high quality interventions targeted at whole classes, small groups or individuals which aim to:
•Improve children’s physical literacy
•Improve teachers’ confidence in delivering PE
•Increase children’s confidence in English and maths activities
•Improve children’s communication skills and resilience.
The programme is tailored to the needs and priorities of each school and is being rolled out to up to 20 schools during the 2017/18 academic year with a view to increasing this over the coming years.
The Role
We are now recruiting a Primary Stars Sports Mentor to help deliver the PL Primary Stars programme in primary schools across Sussex. We’re looking for someone with a relevant teaching qualification or an experienced PE specialist with the ability and confidence to deliver a range of interventions both on the sports pitch and in the classroom.
You’ll work with different schools each term and no day will be the same. You’ll need to be an excellent organiser but someone who can also think on their feet and adapt activities to meet the needs of the pupils in each school.
In each local partner school you’ll deliver fun, educational sessions in a range of subjects that inspire and motivate all pupils, but particularly those lacking confidence or struggling at school. This could include: supporting individual pupils with specific needs, delivering high quality PE lessons, using football as a tool to engage pupils in literacy, numeracy and PSHE or delivering enrichment activities outside of curriculum time.
The successful candidate will be required to help measure the impact of what we do and quantify the difference the programme makes to young people and whole school communities.
You will need to be able to quickly develop a strong rapport with a wide range of pupils as well as build successful relationships with staff at the school. You will be able to work independently and as part of a team and will have the support and training you need be the best you can be.
The post is offered on an initial two-year fixed term contract until July 2019, with the prospect of a contract extension thereafter. The successful candidate will need to be flexible with working hours to include some early morning, weekend and evening work.
